Palermo-Montecarlo 2021: Entries are open

Palermo, 3 March 2021

Notice of race is now available and entries are open for 2021 Palermo-Montecarlo, the 500 mile - offshore race scheduled to departure from Mondello, Palermo (Sicily) on August 21 - bound to Montecarlo. The event is organized by Circolo della Vela Sicilia in collaboration with Yacht Club de Monaco and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

Palermo-Montecarlo offshore race is also part of the 2020-2021 IMA Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge.

57 boats joined the 2019 edition, with Vera (owner Miguel Galuccio) taking line honours and being therefore awarded with the "Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita Trophy". Maxi yachts such as Rambler, Steinlager, Amer Sport One and Esimit Europa 2  raced the Palermo-Montecarlo in previous years, with Esimit Europa 2 still holding the race record (47 hrs, 46 minutes and 48 seconds).

The Palermo-Montecarlo will be managed in accordance with the rules established by World Sailing (the international sailing federation) relating to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

"It’ been a complex year for everyone, but we hope to be able to resume our normal activities as soon as possible and to be able to give life, in August, to a certainly special and strongly symbolic edition of our Palermo-Montecarlo race”, said Agostino Randazzo, President of the Circolo della Vela Sicilia - winner of the Prada Cup in Auckland alongside Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, Challenge of Record of the 36th America's Cup.
